IONIA. Uncertain. Circa 600-550 BC. Stater (Electrum, 21 mm, 16.67 g), Phokaic standard. Ithyphallic donkey walking to left on a raised circular disc (a shield?). Rev. One large irregular incuse square flanked by two smaller ones (all separately struck with the smaller squares both struck by the same punch. SNG Kayhan-. Traité-. Weidauer-. Apparently unpublished save for its previous auction appearances . Of the greatest rarity, apparently unique and hitherto unknown. Boldly struck and powerful. Minor marks and struck from a rather smooth and undetailed obverse die, otherwise, about extremely fine.
