MYSIA. Kyzikos. Circa 550-500 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10 mm, 2.71 g). Bearded male head to left; below, tunny fish to left. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square. Von Fritze I, 66. SNG Paris, 194. Well-centered and struck on a broad flan. About extremely fine.

Ex Nomos 21, 21 November 2020, 175.

What is interesting about this coin is the very Archaic nature of the male head: it is particularly reminiscent of the heads of Dionysos that appeared on the contemporary drachms of Sicilian Naxos!
