ARGOLIS. Epidauros. Circa late 250s. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 5.63 g, 3 h), heavy weight series. Laureate head of Apollo Maleatas to right, his hair falling down the back of his neck. Rev. Asklepios seated left on backless throne, holding long scepter with his left hand and extending his right over the head of a snake that coils to left before him; under the throne, hound lying to right; below seat, ΘΕ; to right, Ε. BCD 1236. BMC 7 var. Jameson 2107 var. Requier, Series II, D1/R2, 55 (this coin). SNG Lockett 2508 var. Extremely rare, one of only a few heavy weight Apollo drachms known. Beautifully toned and most attractive. Minor edge fault, otherwise, extremely fine.
