Severus II, as Caesar, 305-306. Argenteus (Silver, 21 mm, 3.33 g, 12 h), Serdica, A = 1st officina, c. 305-306. SEVERV-S NOB C Laureate head of Severus II to right. Rev. VIRTVS MILITVM / .SM.SDA. Camp gate with open door and three turrets. Gautier 24. RIC - (but cf. 11). Very rare. Lightly toned and sharply struck. Good extremely fine.

Ex Gemini VII, 9 January 2011, 841 and Rauch 82, 23 April 2008, 602.

The silver coinage of Severus II, both as caesar and emperor, has always been rare, but his issues from Serdica were unknown until a few turned up nearly ten years ago. This is surely the finest existing example.
