Jotapian, usurper, circa 248-249. Antoninianus (Billon, 21 mm, 3.91 g, 12 h), Nicopolis in Seleucia. IM C M F R IOTAPIANVS A Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Jotapian to right, with full beard. Rev. VICT-OR-IA AVG Victory advancing to left, holding wreath in right hand and palm branch in left. Bland 12 (dies uncertain). Cohen 1. RIC IV 2)a, note. RSC -. Extremely rare. Some rough areas, otherwise, very fine.



Jotapian was a little known usurper who revolted in either Syria or Cappadocia due to the exactions of the governor Priscus, who was probably C. Julius Priscus, the brother of Philip I. His reign was very short and he was murdered by his own men.
