Q. Cassius Longinus, 55 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18.5 mm, 3.83 g, 11 h), Rome. Q · CASSIVS VEST Diademed and veiled head of Vesta to right. Rev. Circular temple of Vesta with griffen (?) antefixes and a statue holding a long staff and a globe at the top of the roof; within intercolumniation, curule chair; in the field to left, two-handled wide-mouthed; in the field to right, voting tablet inscribed A C (= Absolvo Condemno). Babelon (Cassia) 9. Crawford 428/1. Sydenham 917. An exceptionally handsome example, very well-centered and with lovely toning. Small scuff on Vesta's brow, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
