BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Eukratides I, circa 170-145 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 35.5 mm, 17.02 g, 12 h), c. late 160s. Diademed and draped bust of Eukratides to right, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull's horn and ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ / ΕΥΚΡΑΤΙΔΟΥ The Dioskouri galloping to right, each holding a couched spear in his right hand and a palm branch in his left; below left, monogram of ΗΡΛ. Bopearachchi Series 6Z. HGC 12, 131. Mitchiner 177l. SNG ANS 473 var (position of monogram). Lightly toned and unusually well-struck; undoubtedly one of the finest known. Minor marks, otherwise, virtually as struck.
