CYCLADES, Kimolos. Circa 3rd-2nd Century BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.93 g, 7 h). Head of Athena wearing crested Corinthian helmet to right. Rev. K-I Hydria, with its vertical handle facing and its two horizontal handles on either side. Apparently unpublished, other than the auction appearance of another piece: CNG 60, 2002, 595. Of the greatest rarity, the second example known, and the better of the two. Clear and with a dark patina. Somewhat pitted surfaces, otherwise, very fine.

From a European collection, acquired circa 2000 in a lot of miscellaneous bronzes.

The only previously known example appeared as Classical Numismatic Group MBS 60, 22 May 2002, 595 (estimated at $500 it realized $3 000, then CHF 4 700).
