SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 24 mm, 17.07 g, 8 h), Susa, 305/4-295. Bust of Alexander the Great as Dionysos to right, wearing helmet covered with a panther's skin and adorned with a bull’s horn and ear, and with a panther's skin tied around his shoulders. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ Nike standing to right, using both hands to place a wreath on the helmet at the top of a trophy to right; in the lower left field, monogram of AP; between Nike's feet and the trophy, monogram of ΠΑ. ESMS Tr. 106 var (A63/P-). Marest-Caffey Group 1.11, 178-80 var (A25/R-). SC 173.15. Struck from dies of the finest style, very well-struck and dramatically toned. Good extremely fine.
