LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 281-278 BC. Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 6.65 g, 10 h), struck under the magistrates Ale..., Eu..., and Z... Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Corinthian helmet; above, AΛE; behind neck, EY; below, Z. Rev. Youthful Herakles standing facing, nude but for a lion's skin draped over his left arm, holding a club in his right hand and a bow in his left; to left, above his right hand, owl flying to right. HN III 1400. SNG ANS 86. Van Keuren 103. Rare. Well-centered and toned. Some uncleaned deposits, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of W. Belser, Zürich, prior to 1965, and that of his son, acquired in the early 1970s.
