EGYPT. Alexandria. Hadrian, 117-138 AD. Drachm (Bronze, 34 mm, 25.77 g, 11 h), year 9 and 10 = 19 = 134/135. AVT KAIC TPAIAN • A∆PIANOC CEB Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Hadrian to right. Rev. L EN-N-EA K ∆ Elpis standing facing, her head to left, holding lotus-blossom with her right hand and raising the hem of her chiton with her left. BMC 715; Dattari (Savio) 1688; Geissen 1174; K&G 32.648; Köln 1173-74; Milne 1465; RPC 5987. An elegant example with a beautiful brown patina. Amongst the finest known. Minor ancient scratch on the obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.

Ex CNG 41, 19 March 1997, 1161 and from the collection of N. V. Jamgochian of California, Peus 340, 2 November 1994, 929, originally acquired prior to the 1960s.
