Nero, 54-68. Aureus (Gold, 18 mm, 7.29 g, 3 h), Rome, 66-67. IMP NERO CAESAR AVGVSTUS Laureate head of Nero to right, with slight beard. Rev. SALVS Salus seated left on high-backed throne, holding patera with her right hand. BMC 94. Calicó 445. Cohen 317. RIC 66. Attractive and nicely toned. Minor marks and scuffs, otherwise, extremely fine.

From a European collection, ex Stack’s New York, 2 December 1997, 345 and from the collection of Dr. Ehrensperger in Zürich and those of P. Vautier, Naville II, 12 June 1922, 363, le Comte de Sartiges ("bekannter französischer Amateur"), Hirsch XXVI, 23 May 1910, 677, and F. Mertens, Hirsch XIV, 27 November 1905, 954; apparently found prior to 1900 in Cologne.
