KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28.5 mm, 17.14 g, 12 h), struck under Antigonos II Gonatas, Pella, c. 280-275. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔΡOΥ Zeus, draped from the waist and wearing elaborate sandals, seated left on high-backed throne, holding eagle on his outstretched right hand and long scepter in his left; in field to left, bunch of grapes on stem with tendrils. Price 589. Well-centered and boldly struck, with a particularly elegant reverse. Minor marks, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
