BITHYNIA. Heraclaea Pontica. Trajan, 98-117. (Bronze, 20 mm, 5.57 g, 6 h), 114-116. ΑΥΤ K NEP ΤΡΑΙΑΝΟС APICTOC C Γ Δ Laureate head of Trajan to right. Rev. ΗΡΑΚΛΕΩΤΑΝ ΜΑΤΡΟΠΟΛ (sic) Helmeted bust of Athena to right, wearing aegis. RG 90. RPC III 1176. An extremely rare late issue of Trajan; only two specimens cited in RPC, both of which are in museum collections, and none on CoinArchives. Well-struck with clear types and legends. Good very fine.

Examples with these same types but with slightly different legends and dated to 102-114 are relatively common. This later issue, however, is extremely rare.
