C. Vibius Varus, 42 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.83 g, 7 h), Rome. Head of Bacchus to right, wreathed with ivy and grapes. Rev. C · VIBIVS / VARVS Panther springing left towards garlanded altar surmounted by mask and thyrsus. Babelon (Vibia) 24. Crawford 494/36. CRI 192. Sydenham 1138. Lightly toned with gold and rose hues. Small banker's mark (S C) in obverse field, otherwise, very fine.
