IONIA. Uncertain. Circa 550-525 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 11.5 mm, 2.40 g), on the Lydo-Milesian weight standard. Forepart of a bull to left, with linear ornaments (letters?) above and before. Rev. Rough incuse square with a vaguely cruciform pattern. Cf. Fischer-Bossert, "Horses", passim for a series with very similar reverses. Gorny & Mosch 164, 2008, 186 (same dies). Cf. SNG Kayhan 733-734 (smaller denomination). Weidauer -. Extremely rare, probably the second example known. Boldly struck and impressive. Extremely fine.
