Nero, 54-68. Sestertius (Orichalcum, 37 mm, 27.96 g, 6 h), Lugdunum, 67. IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX TR POT P P Laureate head of Nero to left, globe at point of bust. Rev. PORT AVG S-C Port of Ostia with ships within the harbour, at the top, pharos surmounted by statue of Neptune holding scepter left; at bottom, figure of Tiber reclining left, holding rudder and dolphin; to left, crescent-shaped pier with portico, terminating with figure sacrificing at altar and with building; to right, crescent-shaped row of breakwaters or slips, terminating with figure seated on rocks; in the central harbor, five ships. Cohen 253. BN 189 (same dies). RIC 587. A clear and distinguishable example of this historic type. Fine.
