CYCLADES, Paros. Circa 500-497/5 BC. Drachm (Silver, 6.06 g). Goat moving to right. Rev. Roughly quadripartite incuse square. Sheedy 73a (this coin). A remarkably beautiful coin with a magnificently sculptural goat. One of the loveliest examples of the entire series. Finely toned and extremely attractive. Virtually as struck.

Ex Bank Leu 13. 23 April 1975, 175.

This must be one of the most impressive of all surviving Parian drachms. The beautifully rounded and high relief representation of the goat is reminiscent of those that appear on Achaemenid gems and, even, on Minoan and Mycenaean ones.
