AITOLIA, Aitolian League. Circa 250-225 BC. Stater (Silver, 26.5 mm, 10.43 g, 6 h). Head of Apollo to right, wearing oak wreath; below neck, ΦΙ. Rev. ΑΙΤΩΛΩΝ Aitolos, nude but for his petasos, hanging from its neck strap down his back, his sword, in its scabbard under his left arm and his chlamys draped over his right leg, standing left, holding his spear in his right hand and with his right foot propped on a boulder; in field to left, Δ. BCD Akarnania 444. BMC 10. De Laix 72, 12. Tsangari 737 (D24/R73 this coin). A remarkably sharp and attractive example, struck on a broad flan. Very minor die rust on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

AITΩΛΩN Aitolos seated right on pile of Celtic shields, with his head facing, holding spear, sword and wearing long robes; to right, ΔY above trophy. BCD Akarnania 451. De Laix 72, 1. SNG Copenhagen 9. Tsangari 717. A well struck, lustrous and bright example, of particularly fine style. Good extremely fine.

BMC 127. SNG Copenhagen 324. An attractive and well-struck example. Some striking flatness on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
