Divus Vespasian, died 79. Denarius (Silver, 21.5 mm, 3.05 g, 6 h), struck under Titus, Rome, 80-81. DIVVS AVGVSTVS VESPASIANVS• Laureate head of Vespasian to right. Rev. Foreparts of two capricorns back to back, supporting a round shield inscribed S C; below, globe. BMC 129. BN 101. Cohen 497. RIC² 357 (Titus). Old scratches, otherwise, very fine.

The prototype for the reverse depiction seen on this coin can be located on the consecration Sestertii struck by Tiberius, half a century earlier, in honor of his father Augustus (cf. RIC 57).
