A. Postumius A.f. Sp.n. Albinus, 81 BC. Denarius Serratus (Silver plated bronze, 19 mm, 2.56 g, 1 h), Rome. HISPAN Veiled head of Hispania to right. Rev. A · POST · A · F S · N · (AL)BIN Togate figure standing to left, saluting, with his right hand, legionary eagle to left, and with his left in the folds of his toga; to right, fasces bound with axe. Babelon (Postumia) 8. Crawford 372/2. Sydenham 746. Core exposed on the obverse before Hispania's nose and chin. good very fine.

The serration of the denarii was an anti-forgery measure which, in general was successful, although not in this instance. It is indeed a fact that not many serrated plated denarii have survived from this period, proving the effectiveness of this practice.
