LUCANIA. Velia. Circa 340-334 BC. Nomos (Silver, 23 mm, 7.17 g, 7 h), from the "Θ" group. Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with griffin; behind neck, Θ. Rev. YEΛHTΩN Lion walking to right; above, Φ; below, Θ. HN III 1284. SNG Copenhagen 1549 (same dies) Williams 270/I (O155/R211). High relief, bold strike with an excellent portrait of Athena. Faint scratches on Athena's cheek, minor deposits on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
