Basil II Bulgaroktonos, with Constantine VIII, 976-1025. Miliaresion (Silver, 25 mm, 2.92 g, 1 h), Constantinople, 977. +IhSЧ XSI-STuS ҺICA (sic!) Patriarchal cross potent on base and four steps; all within triple circle of dots, with eight added pellets. Rev. + bASIL’ / C CONSTAN /ΠORFVROG’ / ΠISTV bAS / RωMAIω’, in five lines and with an ornament above and below; all within triple linear border with eight added pellets. DOC 16. Grierson, "The Gold and Silver Coinage of Basil II", ANSMN 13 (1967), pl XXXIX, I. SB 1808. Extremely rare, struck very shortly after the brothers ascended to the throne – perhaps only half a dozen of these coins known. Toned. Clipped as usual and with minor scratches, otherwise, very fine.
