CARIA. Kaunos. mid 4th-mid 3rd centuries BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 10 mm, 1.03 g, 12 h). Diademed male head to right. Rev. K-(AY) Cornucopiae tied with ribbon. SNG Copenhagen 184. Karl -. Brown patina. Light corrosion, otherwise, very fine.

Both SNG Copenhagen and Karl identify the head on the obverse of this issue as Alexander the Great. Both of the Karl specimens have double cornuacopias on the reverse. It should be noted that the portrait, with its prominent nose, is remarkably like that of Ptolemy I: could it be that this coin was issued during one of the periods of Ptolemaic control over the city?
