LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.80 g, 3 h). Head of Demeter to right, wearing long pendant earring and a grain wreath. Rev. META Ear of barley with leaf to right; on the leaf, Nike standing left, holding large wreath with both hands. HN III 1591. Johnston C9.3. SNG ANS 496 var. A sharp, clear and attractive example. Some flatness and traces of die wear on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Metapontum. Time of Kleonymos, circa 302 BC. Third stater (Gold, 15 mm, 2.62 g, 8 h), Achaian standard. NIKA Head of Nike facing slightly to the right, her hair in an ampyx, wearing a single-pendant earring and a pearl necklace. Rev. METAΠON Barley ear with six grains and leaf to right. Gulbenkian 71 (same dies). HN III 1629. Johnston G3 (from the same dies as the example illustrated). Kraay & Hirmer 245 (same dies). Very rare. Clearly struck on a broad flan. Nearly extremely fine.

LUCANIA. Thourioi. Circa 410-400 BC. Distater (Silver, 23 mm, 15.69 g, 9 h). Head of Athena to right wearing Attic helmet, adorned, on the helmet bowl above the visor, with Skylla coiled to right, raising her left hand. Rev. ΘΟΥΡΙΩΝ Bull butting to right on exergual line bordered with dots; in exergue, fish to right. HN III.1807. Noe H 6 (same dies). SNG ANS 972 (same dies). SNG Lockett 492 (same dies). Boldly attractive and lightly toned. Struck on a slightly tight flan, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
