Augustus, Restitution issue struck under Trajan, 98-117. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.48 g, 7 h), Rome. CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT / CL CAESARES Gaius and Lucius Caesares standing facing with two round shields and two spears between them; above, simpulum on left to the left and lituus on right to the right. BMC 536, pl. 13, 18 (but miss-attributed as lifetime issue). Cf. RIC² 208. See Leu 71, 1997, lot 293 with the note by A. Walker for the identification of the series. For another example, see NAC 64, 2012, 1077. A pleasant, toned example from a particularly rare series. Very fine.
