PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos, 285-246 BC. Pentadrachm (Gold, 23.5 mm, 17.64 g, 12 h), Alexandria, c. 275/4-272. Diademed head of Ptolemy I to right, wearing aegis around his neck. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΠΤΟΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ Eagle with closed wings standing left on a thunderbolt; between legs, I; to left, Σ-based monogram above oval Gallic shield. Lorber 287. Svoronos 573. A beautiful, sharp example, attractive and very well-centered. Minor marks, otherwise, extremely fine.
