KINGS OF MACEDON. Perseus, 179-168 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.71 g, 1 h), pseudo-Rhodian type, struck for the mercenaries of Perseus during the third Macedonian war, uncertain mint in central Greece, 171-168, with the name of the Rhodian mint magistrate Stasion. Head of Helios facing, turned slightly to the right. Rev. ΣTAΣIΩN Rose with bud to right; to left, grape bunch. Cf. Ashton, Pseudo 41 (different dies). SNG Copenhagen 918. Intriguing. About extremely fine.

It is very possible that the name Stasion is not that of a magistrate, but rather is of the mercenary commander whose troops received coins like this as pay.
