KINGS OF MACEDON. Time of Philip V and Perseus, 187-168 BC. Tetrobol (Silver, 18 mm, 2.07 g, 4 h), Amphipolis. Head of maenad to right. Rev. MAKE-ΔONΩN Stern of galley to right; in field to right, P. AMNG III/1 19 var. (star above stern). HGC 3.1, 326. Rare with P in the field. Struck from a worn obverse die, otherwise, good very fine.



There are just a few varieties of these tetrobols struck during the time of the Macedonian kings Philip V and Perseus. Most have either a star above the stern and/or a letter (M, Π, or P) in the right field of the reverse. AMNG III/1 19 has both a star and the letter P. No examples of this variety with just the P are on CoinArchives.
