PISIDIA. Antiochia. Antonine Period, 138-192. (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.43 g, 6 h). ANTIOC Bust of Mên to left, wearing Phrygian cap, with a crescent on his shoulders. Rev. COLONI Rooster striding to right. Krzyzanowksa 141, X.12 and XI.12. RPC online 7353. A particularly attractive coin, boldly struck, of a powerfully rustic, local style, with a fine dark patina. Nearly extremely fine.

From the collection of the late K. Kotopoulos, Astoria, New York.

Roosters, and chickens in general, rarely appear on ancient coins; they are, thus, much in demand from poultry collectors.
