ETRURIA. Populonia. Circa 3rd century BC. 20 Asses (Silver, 15.3 mm, 8.62 g, 12 h). Facing head of Metus (Gorgon), mark of value (XX) below. Rev. Two caducei, tête-bêche. EC Series 48.77 (O14/R18, this coin). HN III 150. Kraay & Hirmer 327 (same dies). Vecchi 48. An attractive piece with an especially clear and well-struck reverse. Minor die rust and the usual die break on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 333-331/0 BC. Didrachm or nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.86 g, 12 h), by the Kal... engraver, Kal.... Nude rider on horse prancing to right, holding round shield and two lances with his left hand and striking downwards with a spear held in his upraised right; behind, to left, ⊢; to right, Λ; below, ΚΑΛ over Δ. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos seated astride dolphin to right, holding crested helmet with both hands; to left and right, eight-pointed star; below, ΚΑΛ. Fischer-Bossert 761. HN III 896. Vlasto 548. Lightly toned and attractive. Struck from slightly worn dies, and with a minor graffito on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

ΤΑΡΑΣ Phalanthos riding dolphin to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and trident in his left; below, small dolphin to left; in field to left, Α / Ρ. Fischer-Bossert 848. HN III 937. SNG Paris 1803. Vlasto 621. Well-centered, well-struck and nicely toned. Extremely fine.
