DYNASTS OF LYCIA. Perikles, circa 380-360 BC. Stater (Silver, 25.5 mm, 9.59 g, 12 h), Antiphellos (Kaş), c. 380-375. Bearded head of Perikles facing, turned slightly to left, his hair in dramatic disarray and with his cloak held together around his neck with a circular broach; to right, dolphin swimming downwards. Rev. PARIKLA VÄHÑTÄZ (in Lycian script). Warrior, nude but for his crested Corinthian helmet, advancing to right, brandishing sword with his raised right hand and holding oval shield with his left; to left, triskeles; all within shallow incuse square. SNG von Aulock 4251 (same dies). Olçay-Mørkholm 391-396, A1-P2 (same dies). A superb example, struck on a very broad flan and with a spectacular portrait of the Dynast. Obverse struck with a very slightly rusty die; reverse struck with a worn die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From the Trausnitz Collection, acquired from Münzhandlung Athena on 14 April 1997.
