IONIA. Miletos. Circa 560-545 BC. Stater (Electrum, 26.5 mm, 13.82 g, 9 h). Lion seated to left, his head turned back to right; all within ornamental rectangular frame. Rev. Three ornamental incuses: 1) to left, square punch containing a star of five pellets connected by lines; 2) at the center, rectangular punch containing a fox running to left and an ornament of three pellets; 3) to right, square punch, containing a stag's head to left. BMFA 1882. Hilbert 102, S37.2 (A18/X-F13-HK6 same dies). Konuk & Lorber fig. 18. Kraay & Hirmer 591. SNG Kayhan 440. Weidauer 126. Rare. With particularly clear reverse punches. Struck on an irregular oblong flan, and with some striking faults, otherwise, good very fine.
