Michael VIII Palaeologus, 1261-1282. Trachy (Copper, 28 mm, 2.62 g, 6 h), Class IX, Thessalonica, 1282-1295. Large ornate cross with star in each quarter. Rev. Half-length facing figures of Michael, on left, holding labarum in his right hand, and St. Demetrius, holding spear in his left hand, holding between them a model of Thessalonica; star above. DOC 159-60. SB 2300. Light porosity and flan crack, otherwise, very fine.
