ATTICA. Athens. Circa 449-404 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.22 g, 9 h), 430s. Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with three olive leaves and palmette, round earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΑΘΕ Owl standing right, head facing; behind, olive spray and crescent moon; all within incuse square. HGC 4, 1597. Kroll 8. Svoronos pl. 14, 22. Carefully centered and lustrous. Extremely fine.



Interestingly enough, the owl on the reverse of this coin is somewhat smaller than usual and seems to almost be hovering in the air.
