KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 16.99 g, 11 h), struck posthumously, Chios, under the magistrate Alkimachos, c. 190-165. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ / ΑΛΚΙΜΑΧΟΥ Zeus seated to left on backless throne, holding eagle in his outstreched right hand and long scepter in his left; to left, ΠΟ over Sphinx seated on amphora to left. HGC 6, 113. Price 2417. Light die-rust on obverse, slight die-shift on reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
