MACEDON. Akanthos. Circa 478-465 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28.5 mm, 17.11 g), c. 470. Lion to right, attacking bull, collapsing to left with head raised to right; above, Θ to the right of the bull's horn; below bull, base of pellets between plain lines; in exergue, floral ornament. Rev. Quadripartite incuse square with granulated surfaces. SNG ANS 10. Tselekas Period C, Class VII, Group 19 (close to 211). Lightly toned, and struck on a particularly broad flan. Some die rust around the bull's tail and test cut on the obverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
