Caracalla, 198-217. Denarius (Silver, 18.5 mm, 2.03 g, 1 h), Rome, 199-200. ANTONINVS PIVS AVG BRIT Laureate and draped bust of Caracalla to right. Rev. VICTROIA-E BRIT Victory advancing left, holding a trophy with both hands. RIC 102-4. Cohen 629. RIC 231A. Lightly toned. Good very fine.



The reverse type celebrates the campaigns in Britain of Septimius Severus and his sons. There are several different types with the VICTORIAE BRIT reverse legend and they are all hugely popular with collectors as acquiring nice examples of each is a challenging goal.
