CYCLADES, Naxos. Naxos. Geta, as Caesar, 198-209. Assarion (Bronze, 15.5 mm, 2.15 g, 6 h). Λ CE - Π ΓETAC Bare head of Geta to left. Rev. ΝΑΞΙ - ΩΝ Wine krater. Mionnet Suppl. IV, p. 397, 241. Extremely rare. With a green-red-brown patina. Good very fine.

From the Vineyard Vollection, bought privately from Kirk Davis in December 1999.

Roman provincial coins from the Cyclades are uniformly very uncommon: issued to serve the population of the islands they seldom left them; and since they seldom left their islands of issue they tended to circulate so intensely that surviving examples are seldom, if ever, in good condition.
