Hadrian, 117-138. Aureus (Gold, 20 mm, 7.38 g, 6 h), Rome, 134-138. HADRIANVS AVG COS III P P Bare head of Hadrian to right. Rev. DISCIPLINA AVG Hadrian, in military dress, advancing to right, leading three signifers, each wearing a lion's skin headdress and each bearing a standard. Calicó 1251a (this coin, but actually the same type as 1251, since Hadrian is not veiled as described by Calicó). Cohen 540. BMC 602. Bourgey & Desnier pg. 67, 200 (this coin). RIC 232. VQR vol. I, p. 254, n. 3396 (this coin). Very rare, an intriguing reverse type, and an exceptional provenance. Some minor marks on the obverse and with minor marks and a spade cut on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
