Titus, as Caesar, 69-79. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.45 g, 6 h), Ephesus, 71. IMPERATOR T CAESAR AVGVSTI F Laureate head of Titus to right. Rev. AVG • EPHE in two lines within oak-wreath with ties below. BN 357. Cohen 23. RIC 1436 (Vespasian). RPC 841. Struck from the same dies as the aureus

From the collection of A. Lynn, ex Helios 4, 14 October 2009, 303.

The fact that this coin shares its dies with an aureus is particularly interesting; in Rome aureus dies seem to invariably have been specially made solely for striking gold coins (around the mid 3rd century this changed, with off metal strikes being known, and with gold coins, especially of Gallienus, being struck from reverse dies used for silver or billon issues). Clearly, this practice was not followed in Roman Ephesos.
