UNCERTAIN EAST. Copying Athens. 5th-4th centuries BC. (Lead, 26x21 mm, 22.83 g). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet adorned with olive leaves and an upwardly turned palmette. Rev. Plain. Cf. SNG Copenhagen 31 for the obverse. Apparently struck and very probably from a die taken from a genuine Athenian tetradrachm or engraved by a highly competent engraver. An extraordinary and very rare object!. Very fine.
