KINGS OF MACEDON. Kassander, 305-298 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.62 g, 9 h), Uncertain mint, probably in eastern Anatolia, c. 302-301. Head of youthful Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΚΑΣΣΑΝΔΡΟΥ Club; below, KE monogram. AMNG II -. HGC 3.1, -. SNG Copenhagen -. Seemingly unpublished and possibly unique. Attractive green and brown patina. Several pits scattered about that seem to be stable, otherwise, good very fine.

This is an exciting new find in the coinage of Kassander. The fabric and the reverse iconography is similar to the very rare SNG Copenhagen 1159, minted probably in western Anatolia and can be associated with Cassandra's expedition to Asia Minor and the battle of Ipsus. This is a new denomination for a very rare series.
