THRACE. Byzantium. Pseudo-autonomous issue, time of Hadrian, circa 128-136. (Bronze, 22.5 mm, 6.25 g, 12 h), struck under the magistrate Demetros. BYZAΣ Helmeted and bearded head of Byzas to right. Rev. ΕΠΙ ΔΗΜΗΤΡΟC ΤΟ Β Prow to right. BMC 55 (same obv. die). Schönert-Geiss 2032 (V1/R1). Dark green patina with earthen deposits. Nearly very fine.



The obverse of this coin depicts the legendary founder of Byzatium, Byzaz, the Son of Nisos, King of Megara.
