SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Seleukos I Nikator, 312-281 BC. Drachm (Silver, 16.5 mm, 4.13 g, 7 h), Uncertain mint in western Asia Minor, circa 281 BC. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion's skin headdress. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΣΕΛΕΥΚΟΥ Zeus seated left, holding Nike in right hand, scepter in left; in left field, monogram. SC Ad45 (same dies). 'Seleucus I Hoard', CH X.265, 1010-5 (same dies). HGC 9, 29a. Extremely rare. Nearly very fine.

There are only about eight or nine of these drachms known, most coming from the 2005 'Seleucus I Hoard' (CH X.265) and all struck from the same pair of dies. Because of the freshness of these drachms in comparison to the rest of the coins in the hoard, they were determined to be the most recent, thus dating the issue to shortly before the last battle of the Diodochs, the Battle of Korupedion between Lysimachos and Seleukos I in 281 BC.
