AEOLIS. Boione. Early 3rd century BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 10.5 mm, 1.11 g, 7 h). Female head to left, hair bound with sphendone. Rev. BOIΩΝI-[TIKHΣ] Cow standing right. SNG Copenhagen 28. SNG von Aulock -. Dark green patina. Good very fine.



The precise location of ancient Boione in Aeolis is uncertain as its remains have never been found. According to the Barrington Atlas it was situated somewhere between Larissa and Phokaia in the valley of the Hermus River, where its coins are generally found.
