Unpublished new type from the mysterious Moriaseis

Starting Price: 250 CHF
Hammer Price:  700 CHF
Lot 626

THRACO-MACEDONIAN TRIBES, Moriaseis. 2nd century BC. (Bronze, 13 mm, 3.95 g, 4 h). Head of Athena to wearing crested helmet. Rev. MOPIA/[Σ]EΩN Palm branch. Unpublished and unicum!. Stripped patina, otherwise, nearly very fine.

This is a totally unknown new denomination from the extremely elusive series of the enigmatic tribe of the Moriaseis. Nomos AG would like to thank Mr. Yannis Stoyas of KIKPE Athens, for the extremely interesting and productive conversations on the subject. Mr. Stoyas and Dr. G. Parissaki are going to publish an interesting review on the coinage of Moriaseis in which apart from the presentation of the known examples, some new arguments will be offered, concerning the origin of this mysterious tribe (or city?).
