LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Nomos (Silver, 20 mm, 7.82 g, 5 h), struck under the magistrate Da... or Ad... Head of Demeter to left, wearing grain wreath, triple pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with eight grains and with leaf to right; above leaf, fork or rake; below leaf, ΑΔ. HN III 1582. Johnston Class C. 5.11 (same dies). Cf. SNG Fitzwilliam 506. A nicely struck example exhibiting a rich early Hellenistic style. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, good very fine.
