MOESIA INFERIOR. Nicopolis ad Istrum. Septimius Severus, 193-211. (Bronze, 26 mm, 11.06 g, 7 h), struck under the consular legate Aurelius Gallus, 201-203. AY K Λ CEΠ CEYHPOC Π Laureate head of Septimius Severus to right. Rev. YΠ AYP ΓAΛΛOY N-I-KOΠOΛEITΩN / ΠPC ICTPO (sic!) Dionysos standing facing, head to left, holding grape bunch with his extended right hand and long thyrsos in his left; at his feet to left, panther to left, his head turned towards the grape that Dionysos is presenting. Cf. H&J 8.14.8.4 (rev. legend). Varbanov -. Light green patina. Very fine.
