MOESIA INFERIOR. Marcianopolis. Macrinus, with Diadumenian, Caesar, 217-218. Pentassarion (Bronze, 28 mm, 13.88 g, 6 h), struck under the consular legate, Pontianus. ΑΥΤ Κ ΟΠΕΛΛΙ CΕΥ ΜΑΚΡΙΝΟC Κ Μ ΟΠΕΛΛΙ ΑΝΤΩΝΕΙΝΟC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Macrinus to right, facing bare-headed, draped and cuirassed bust of Diadumenian to left. Rev. ΥΠ ΠΟΝΤΙΑΝΟΥ ΜΑΡ-ΚΙΑΝΟΠΟΛΕΙ/ΤΩΝ Dionysos standing to left, holding grape bunch in his right hand, and filleted thyrsos in his left; in left field, E (denomination). Cf. H&J 6.24.8.1 (obverse legend). Cf. Varbanov 1182 (kantharos in place of grapes). Green patina. Nearly very fine.
